Internal Revenue Service

What is the best resource for information on the IRS?

The best resource for information on the IRS is IRS.gov – the Internal Revenue Service’s official website.

Where do I file my taxes?

Where you file your federal taxes depends on how you’re filing – as an individual, a tax professional, or a business. To find out where you should file your paper tax or returns, please visit the IRS’s filing website.

Can I file my federal taxes online?

Last year, nearly 100 million taxpayers opted for the safest, fastest, and easiest way to submit their individual tax returns – IRS e-file. Since 1990, taxpayers have e-filed nearly 1 billlion Form 1040 series tax returns safely and securely. To learn how to file your taxes using IRS e-file, please visit the IRS’s e-file website.

Where can I find IRS forms and publications?

Individual and business taxpayers recently advised they will no longer receive income tax packages in the mail from the IRS can use the agency’s forms and publications resource page to view, download, or order the forms, schedules, and instructions needed for filing a paper income tax return.

How can I contact my local IRS office?

IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers are your source for personal tax help when you believe your tax issue cannot be handled online or by phone, and you want face-to-face assistance.

If you need to resolve a tax problem, have questions about how the tax law applies to your individual tax return, or you're more comfortable talking with someone face-to-face, visit your local Taxpayer Assistance Center where you can spread out your records and talk with an IRS representative across the counter. No appointment is necessary - just walk in.
