Congressman Thompson introduced legislation (HR 233) to protect 273,000 acres of publicly-owned wilderness in Del Norte, Humboldt, Mendocino, Lake and Napa Counties. It also designates 21 miles of Scenic River and approximately 51,000 acres as a Recreation Management Area for off-highway vehicles and mountain bikes.
The legislation will protect some of Northern California’s most treasured lands and its federally threatened and endangered salmon and trout and it will ensure a source of clean, reliable water for California’s future. This legislation was supported by hundreds of organizations and thousands of people.
Recent Action
In October 2006, Congressman Thompson's wilderness bill was signed into law. This designation will protect these wild spaces for generations to come.
