Thompson Announces $1.4 Million in FEMA Grants to Rebuild Santa Rosa Schools

April 11, 2019

Part of recovery from October 2017 fires

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded more than $1.4 million to the Santa Rosa City Schools to help rebuild the Hidden Valley Satellite school and Alba Lane Farm, an educational farm used by Santa Rosa High School. These funds were awarded as part of Public Assistance for the October 2017 declared disaster.

"Far too many families lost not only their homes, but their schools in the tragic October wildfires. Students at Hidden Valley and at the Santa Rosa High agricultural programs have continued to feel the impact of the fires for the past 18 months without their usual campus," said Thompson. "That's why I am humbled to announce this grant for more than $1.4 million to help rebuild and bring back normalcy for those students and their families. I will continue fighting to bring back every federal dollar and resource as our community continues to rebuild."

"This FEMA announcement brings welcome assistance for Santa Rosa City Schools to continue our wildfire recovery efforts," said Dr. Diann Kitamura, Superintendent of Santa Rosa City Schools. "This funding is more than just rebuilding our school farm and school, it also gives hope to our students, staff and families that we are well on our way to restoring this community."
