Student's art to represent CA-05 in Washington for one year

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that Stephanie Simbol of Jesse Bethel High School is the Grand Prize Winner of the 5th Congressional District's 2018 Art Competition. She will be honored at a ceremony in Washington next month and her piece, Precedent, will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the coming year.

"It is with great pride that we congratulate Stephanie for winning the 2018 Congressional Art Competition!" said Thompson. "Stephanie has both a rich artistic talent and a deep dedication to her craft, both of which are reflected in her submission. Precedent will be a strong representation of our district to the nation and I look forward to seeing her piece each time I walk to the Capitol."

Stephanie's portrait of tempera and acrylic on a canvas panel represents Alexander Hamilton. Stephanie and a guest will receive plane tickets to Washington for a ceremony honoring winners from across the nation next month.

Congressman Mike Thompson is proud to represent California's 5th Congressional District, which includes all or part of Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano and Sonoma Counties. He is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Rep. Thompson is also a member of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition and chairs the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force as well as the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus.
