Committee examines depth of climate change crisis

Washington – Today House Ways and Means Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) discussed the impacts of climate change on his district and methods to combat the crisis through the tax code, including increasing incentives for renewable energy sources.

"Climate change is real and the consequences are impacting our district. All of the expert witnesses in today's hearing – Democrats and Republicans – agreed that this crisis is real and worsening. From the more devastating fires, to more frequent flooding, our communities face increased health and economic effects," said Thompson. "There are steps we must take and take right now to address this, including using our tax code to incentivize the adoption of green, renewable energy technology. I discussed the importance of ‘greening' our tax code in today's hearing and will continue to fight as Chair of the Select Revenue Measures Subcommittee to ensure we harness this important tool in our toolbox to tackle the threat of climate change."
