Thompson Votes to Pass Bill to Help Lower Prescription Drug Costs, Strengthen ACA

May 16, 2019

Bill works to bring cheaper generics to market more quickly

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), a member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, voted to pass H.R. 987, the Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act. This bill helps to bring down the cost of medications by bringing cheaper generic drugs to market more quickly and strengthens the Affordable Care Act against Administration efforts to invalidate the law, drive up health insurance premiums and reduce health care coverage.

"Time and again, this President and his Administration has worked to tear down the Affordable Care Act, trying to overturn protections for patients with pre-existing conditions in court, to reduce coverage and to make health care premiums more expensive. House Democrats are fighting this and helping to drive down prescription drug costs," said Thompson. "This bill will help lower the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs by allowing less expensive generic drugs to come to market and the hands of consumers more quickly. The bill also fights the Administration's sabotage by reducing health insurance premiums and protecting the Affordable Care Act. I will continue my fight to ensure access to quality, affordable care."
