Thompson Releases Statement on Retirement of Congresswoman Anna Eshoo

November 21, 2023

Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement after Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (CA-16) announced she would not seek re-election.

“Anna Eshoo is one of my best friends, and for over thirty years, she has been a dedicated and principled leader for her district. During her tenure in Congress, she established herself as a chief confidant to our Caucus and its leadership, providing important advice and guidance during often tumultuous times in the House,” said Thompson. “She is an expert on health care and technology policy, a respected leader on intelligence issues, and is an accomplished representative with 66 of her bills having been signed into law by five presidents. She broke glass ceilings in Congress as the first woman to chair the Energy & Commerce Health Subcommittee and the first woman to serve in leadership of the Technology Subcommittee.

“We have worked together since before she was in any elected office, and our friendship goes back for more than 40 years. Anna is an incredible human being and is one of the most outstanding legislators that I have had the privilege to serve alongside. She will be sorely missed in Congress, and I wish her happiness and joy in her next chapter.”
