April 23, 2019

Finalist moves on to district-wide competition

Vallejo, CA – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that local judges have selected Lizbeth Ibarra from Jesse Bethel High School as the Solano finalist in the 2019 Fifth Congressional District Art Competition for her piece, Day of the Dead.

"Congratulations Lizbeth Ibarra, Solano County's 2019 Fifth Congressional District Art Competition finalist!" said Thompson. "Every year I have the privilege of seeing our district's up-and-coming artistic talent and showcasing our students' artistic talent and skills. I am so proud of each student who worked hard and participated and want to thank all the dedicated teachers and parents who supported those efforts."

Finalists from each county in the Fifth Congressional District will now be judged and a grand prize winner will be selected. That student and a guest will be flown to Washington, D.C. for an awards ceremony with winners from across our nation. That artwork will also be displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Congressman Mike Thompson is proud to represent California's 5th Congressional District, which includes all or part of Contra Costa, Lake, Napa, Solano and Sonoma Counties. He is a senior member of the House Committee on Ways and Means where he chairs the Subcommittee on Tax Policy. Rep. Thompson is Chairman of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. He is also Co-Chair of the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Wine Caucus and a member of the fiscally-conservative Blue Dog Coalition.
