Thompson, Garamendi Secure Authorization for Lower Cache Creek Flood Risk Reduction Project

December 8, 2022

Today, Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-05) and John Garamendi (CA-03) secured the authorization for the construction of the Lower Cache Creek Flood Risk Reduction Project in the City of Woodland. This funding is part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“Flooding is a risk to our community in Woodland, and the Lower Cache Creek poses a significant economic threat if it floods the surrounding areas,” said Thompson. “The Lower Cache Creek Flood Risk Reduction Project will make major improvements to the Lower Cache Creek levees and help to mitigate the risk of floods in Woodland. Proud to have secured the inclusion of this project in the NDAA and I look forward to seeing this project advanced.”

“I was pleased to advocate for the construction of the Lower Cache Creek Flood Risk Management Project,” Garamendi said. “Major portions of Woodland are in a FEMA-designed Special Flood Hazard Area. It is critically important for the federal government to provide all the support necessary to reduce flood risk and lower flood insurance premiums for Woodland residents. That’s exactly what this legislation will accomplish,” Garamendi concluded.

“The Lower Cache Creek Flood Risk Reduction Project is a critical project for the Woodland community. Securing funding for this project is necessary to protect our city and surrounding areas from impending flood risk. I am thankful for Rep. Thompson’s work to make sure Woodland receives the resources we need to continue to grow and prosper,” said Woodland Mayor Mayra Vega.

The NDAA includes a federal share of $238,151,550 of the total $366,387,000 project cost.

The NDAA passed the House by a vote of 350-80.
