Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement in response to the United States’ vote against a United Nations resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine and calling for the return of Ukrainian territory:

“Three years ago, Vladimir Putin launched his full-scale illegal invasion of Ukraine, beginning the largest land war in Europe since World War II. Since then, the Ukrainian people have withstood a brutal assault on their democracy and their freedom.

Washington – Today, Tax Subcommittee Ranking Member Mike Thompson (CA-04) and Oversight Subcommittee Ranking Member Terri Sewell (AL-07) led a letter alongside Ways and Means Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (MA-01) and Ways and Means Committee Democrats demanding answers from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding the reckless firing of nearly 7,000 probationary IRS employees. The impacted employees were fired without any notice to Congress about where these individuals are located or the divisions in which they work.

Washington – Today, Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) introduced legislation providing homeowners in disaster-prone regions with broad incentives to harden their properties against wildfires and other risks. The legislation is intended to help address the ongoing insurance crisis in California and other states, as the rising frequency and intensity of natural disasters has led insurers to raise rates and, in several cases, exit certain markets entirely.
