In celebration of National Women’s History Month, Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, is honoring five women in the Fifth Congressional District.
Thompson selected Linda Parks, president and CEO of Lixit Animal Care Products in Napa, as Napa County Woman of the Year.
Parks joined Lixit in 1971 as a buyer. At the time, Lixit only had 10 employees. In 1994, the original owner retired and the employees bought the business using a qualified Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

The National Association for the Support of Long Term Care (NASL) recognized Representative Mike Thompson (D-CA) with the 2016 NASL Congressional Leadership Award for his significant contributions to advancing telehealth. Thompson authored and is an original co-sponsor of the Medicare Telehealth Parity Act (H.R. 2948), which would allow Medicare beneficiaries in urban and rural areas to access rehabilitation therapy through the use of telehealth technologies.

Vallejo’s Maria Guevara was named Solano County’s Woman of the Year by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) as he introduced a bipartisan resolution honoring March as Women’s History Month.
He also recognized this year’s theme, “Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government,” he said.
Four other women in Thompson’s district were also named Woman of the Year.

More than $40 million in disaster loans later, many of the businesses damaged by the 2014 South Napa Earthquake are back up and running, and some of them came to express thanks at a roundtable discussion on SBA loans hosted by Rep. Mike Thompson on Thursday.
Thompson welcomed Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet for the event, which included and a tour of Lixit Animal Care Products in Napa, his office said.

In the 18 months since the August 2014 Napa earthquake, the U.S. Small Business Administration has approved 982 loans totaling $37.2 million to Napa County businesses and residents.
The data was presented at a roundtable discussion at Napa Valley College on Thursday morning to discuss the participants’ experience with the SBA after the earthquake.
