A Solano County gun buyback program netted nearly 350 firearms Saturday -- including a military rocket launcher.

Barbara Boxer should be applauded for reintroducing the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Conservation Area Act (“Snow Mountain bill reintroduced in Washington,” March 8). The Berryessa Snow Mountain region is truly an undiscovered treasure, loaded with recreation opportunities.

Sonoma County received $3.5 million in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Community Transformation Grants (CTG) today.

Anticipating staunch resistance from gun-rights groups to any effort to ban assault-style rifles, some pro-gun control lawmakers are instead trying to leverage the national outrage over the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., to enact federal legislation outlawing high-capacity ammunition clips.

Some of the gun lobby's strongest allies are breaking with the National Rifle Association to support proposals that would expand background checks for private firearm sales.

As we've noted before, Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, is the right person to be at the forefront of efforts to strengthen the nation's gun control laws.

“I'm a gun guy,” Thompson said during a recent meeting with The Press Democrat Editorial Board. “I'm not going to give my guns up, and I don't expect anybody else to have to do that.”
