Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) has been reappointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chair Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) today released a letter signed by more than 50 constitutional law experts written and organized by leading members of the American Constitution Society (ACS) and a memo commissioned by the Center for American Progress (CAP) and the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, (LCPGV) which each highlight that laws aimed at reducing gun violence and respect for the Second Amendment are not mutually exclusive.

“The state of our union is getting stronger, but we have more work to do. Whether it's creating jobs, getting our fiscal house in order, fixing our broken immigration system, or putting policies in place that respect the Second Amendment while also reducing gun violence, our nation faces big challenges. We won't overcome these challenges as Democrats versus Republicans - we must meet them together as Americans.

Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) will host a community discussion on concussion identification and prevention. The meeting will be on Wednesday, February 20th. More than 3.8 million sports and recreation-related concussions occur in the U.S. each year. Concussions and head injuries are happening with greater frequency each year across all sports. At this meeting, athletes, parents and coaches will have the opportunity to speak with experts about how to recognize a possible concussion, how to prevent serious head injuries, and how to respond to head injuries when they occur.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) announced he would host the brother of a recent murder-suicide victim as his guest at Tuesday's State of the Union.
Elvin Daniel of McHenry, Ill. is a National Rifle Association (NRA) member who has dedicated himself to helping victims of gun violence since his sister was shot and killed at a salon outside Milwaukee, Wis. in October.
Zina Daniel Haughton and two others were reportedly killed by her estranged husband, Radcliffe Haughton, who later turned the gun on himself. Four others were injured in the shooting.

Congressman comments on Obama's State of the Union message.
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, said he backed President's Obama's priorities in Tuesday night's State of the Union address -- particularly the President's focus on Democrats and Republicans working together to put the needs of the country first, before partisan politics.
“The state of our union is getting stronger, but we have more work to do," Thompson said, echoing Obama's words.
