I am honored and humbled by the overwhelming show of support I received throughout our district on Election Day. With your vote, you put your trust in me to return to Washington and work to make our district a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Now, the election is behind us. A new year and a new Congress are in front of us. It is time to move forward -- not as Democrats and Republicans, but united as Americans -- with the common goal of building a stronger nation.

Congressman Mike Thompson, along with Lake County Board members and other volunteers, won't bring presents from the North Pole to children for Christmas; instead, they are buying them locally for the 17th annual Toys for Kids.
Last year, the toys were purchased at the Clearlake Walmart and this year, the toys will be bought at Funtopia in Middletown.
The Toys for Kids fundraiser is meant to buy toys for children in need. This year, 627 children are on the gift list.

Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-1), a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee today released the following statement after a bipartisan Ways and Means Committee meeting on the fiscal cliff.
“People across our district and nation are counting on us to work together and find a way to avoid the fiscal cliff. After meeting with my Ways and Means colleagues from both sides of the aisle, and being briefed on leadership meetings at the White House, I am cautiously optimistic that we can find common ground and begin addressing our deficit challenges this year.

Dear Friend,
Today, November 11th, is Veterans Day - a time when we as a nation pause to honor and recognize the enormous sacrifices of our nation's veterans and their families.
There are more than 1.4 million Armed Forces personnel currently serving our nation on Active Duty around the world. There are 3.1 million family members of Active Duty and Reserve Members.
These brave Americans are serving our country selflessly - without any expectation of recognition, gratitude, or praise. They do it out of duty, out of honor. They do it for us.

If you were a parent or a coach, if you were there Tuesday night at The Commons on the SSU campus, your head would have hurt as you listened to the experts talk about concussions. The list of symptoms is long. The list of sports in which a concussion can occur is even longer (all of them). The list of the tragic after-effects from an untreated concussion would numb the brain just by their mere recitation.

I feel compelled to respond to George Blevins' “Open letter to Rep. Mike Thompson,” from Oct. 16.
As a 74-year-old, I too have been a longtime constituent of Rep. Thompson's congressional district and have spent my entire career in the health care and aging policy field.
As we prepare to go to the polls, I think it is more important than ever that voters get beyond the campaign rhetoric and go straight to the facts.
