In commemoration of Veteran's Day, Congressman Mike Thompson (D-North Coast) launched the first meeting of the Mendocino County Veterans History Project Steering Committee. The committee's purpose is to assist in coordinating students from local schools as well as from the Scouts and other youth groups to interview veterans. Recordings of the written, oral or video interviews will be submitted to the Library of Congress to make personal accounts of war veterans accessible to future generations.

North Coast Congressman Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, announced Friday that the Rural Community Assistance Corporation will receive $2 million as part of a program through the U.S. Treasury Department.

The funds will allow the corporation to support local single and multifamily affordable housing projects in rural areas.

WASHINGTON--- Today Congressman Mike Thompson announced that the Rural Community Assistance Corporation will receive $2 million as part of the CDFI'sCapital Magnet Fund Program through the Treasury Department. These funds will allow the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) to support local single and multifamily affordable housing projects in rural areas.

As dozens of community members and local officials looked on, Congressman Mike Thompson took a large pair of ceremonial scissors and sliced through a blue ribbon strung across the front of the new Veterans Affairs clinic in Clearlake on Wednesday afternoon.

It was a moment, according to Thompson and local leaders, that was more than a decade in the making.

The new clinic, located at at 15145 Lakeshore Drive, Clearlake, will officially open for patient care on Nov. 1.

Congressman Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, announced Friday that Open Door Community Health Centers will receive $9.8 million in federal funding to build a new facility in Eureka. The funding is from the Affordable Care Act and Open Door is one of 143 community health centers nationwide that will receive the funding.

The commercial cultivation of genetically-engineered (GE) Atlantic “AquAdvantage” salmon could decimate our domestic salmon fishing industry. Though the current application involves land-based hatching and rearing, FDA approval will almost certainly lead to expanded rearing of these and other GE fish in open ocean net-pens. This poses a significant threat to wild fish and ecosystems.

Rep. Gene Green (TX-29) and Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-01) introduced H.R. 6252, The Responsible Electronics Recycling Act to provide the United States with the regulatory framework to monitor the export of used electronics. Although e-waste (consumer electronics such as TVs, cell phones and computers) is the fastest growing waste stream in the country, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) currently has no framework to monitor the removal, disposal, and export to developing nations. Over 3 million tons of e-waste was generated by the United States in 2007.
