Artificial Intelligence is advancing at an uncontrolled pace. Without proper guardrails, AI poses a risk to our society.

There needs to be a major effort by Congress to establish AI regulations that ensure people are safe, and we need to rally world leaders to work collectively to ensure the same.

Congress can begin by designating a national institute to track, research, and advise Congress on the constant changes in AI technology and the new threats those developments could pose. Congress should also consider requiring independent and comprehensive safety plans for AI companies developing new tools, mandating guardrails to protect children and teens from negative influences from AI chatbots, and establishing safety audits be carried out to assess frontier models.

We can, and should, lead the world in AI development while keeping people safe.
