BY THE NUMBERS

$93 Million Recouped for Residents: Thompson has worked to return $93 million and counting from federal agencies to residents of our district.
$500 Million for Fire Survivors: Thompson passed $500 million in tax relief so that fire survivors who received a settlement on the loss of their home would no longer be taxed on their settlement payments.
1,564 New Units of Affordable Housing: Thompson delivered $98 million in low-income housing tax credits, helping build affordable housing in communities hit hardest by disasters. His credits have helped to build 1,564 homes in our district, with more under construction.
$293 Million in Flood Protection: Thompson secured $293 million to provide much-needed  flood protection in downtown Napa. This investment saved lives and allowed for downtown Napa to grow, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
$10 Billion for Farmers: Thompson authored the law that created the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) — formerly known as WHIP+ — securing $10 billion to help farmers recover from wildfires, droughts, and other natural disasters.
One Million Acres of Land Preserved: Thompson has protected over 1 million acres of public land in California, including designating Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument.

LEGISLATIVE AND LEGAL WINS

Fighting Climate Change: Thompson wrote and enacted the largest investment in fighting climate change in our nation’s history. His renewable energy policies helped lower energy costs and created $400 billion in U.S. investments and 400,000 jobs.
Preventing Gun Violence: As Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Thompson helped write and pass the most significant gun violence prevention reform signed into law in decades. It’s helping to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and to target illegal gun trafficking.
Strengthening National Security: Thompson worked to bring C-17s to Travis Airforce base, strengthening our regional defensive capabilities and providing jobs to our district. Thompson also secured funds for a new air traffic control tower and a new building to house the band at Travis.
Helping and Honoring Veterans: Thompson brought a new VA outpatient clinic to Lake County, allowing veterans to get care locally without having to travel far. Thompson also passed legislation directing the VA to repair and maintain the neglected historic Mare Island Veterans Cemetery. Thompson successfully fought to declassify records proving the Department of Defense tested chemical weapons on servicemembers during the Vietnam War in a secret operation called Project SHAD.
Protecting Our Fishing Economy: Following a massive fish kill in the Klamath River where 80,000 adult salmon died due to improper water diversions and federal mismanagement, Thompson famously dumped 500 pounds of dead salmon on the steps of the U.S. Department of the Interior to protest the impact on local fishing communities. Later, Thompson helped lead a hearing investigating whether government officials manipulated scientific processes for political gain.
Saving Agriculture Research: Thompson secured funding for smoke exposure research at UC Davis to help grape growers. When the current administration eliminated the smoke exposure research program, Thompson successfully restored the funding and rehired the researchers.
Expanding Telehealth Access: Thompson wrote and passed his bill to grant telehealth access to Medicare patients during the pandemic, and he led the effort to keep critical telehealth services available beyond the pandemic.
Supporting Endangered Species: Thompson wrote and enacted tax legislation to compensate farmers who engage in land management practices that help endangered species.
Addressing Violent Crime: As a State Senator, Thompson introduced and passed a bill allowing law-enforcement agencies to integrate and share information concerning parolees, violent criminals, and habitual sexual offenders, including registered sex offenders.

Opposing the Reckless Trade War: The average California family paid about $1,900 more last year due to the current administration’s trade war. Thompson is leading the charge to refund you. His Illegal Tariff Refund Act would return money from unlawful tariffs directly to American households instead of to the corporations who raised prices on you.
Increasing Access to Housing: Thompson voted “yes” to pass the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a landmark law that that will help increase the supply of affordable housing, streamline the process of building more homes, and modernize outdated programs to help create more pathways to homeownership and bring much-needed relief to renters.
