Record-Bee: Thompson to greet vets at Konocti Vista

Flags will fly and the service of veterans of the United States Armed Forces will be honored today at Konocti Vista Casino in Lakeport. Doors open at 10 a.m. with the event scheduled to begin at 11.

Congressman Mike Thompson, himself a veteran of the U.S. Army, is scheduled to be the guest speaker for the event. Christ Taliaferro, vice president of the United Veterans Council of Lake County, will serve as master of ceremonies.

Joy Bennett will sing the National Anthem, and the Clear Lake High School band will provide music throughout the day’s program. This year’s “Friend of the Veteran” and “Veteran of the Year” awards will be presented to this year’s recipients by last years winners, Frank and Suzi Parker, and Rick Rice, respectively.

4-H members, Lake County veteran organizations, Patriot Guard Riders and the Military Funeral Honors Team of Lake County will also participate in the day.

A complimentary lunch and beverages will be provided by Konocti Vista Casino to those in attendance, while supplies last.
