Thompson discusses hearing aid treatmentDozens of supporters of legislation to provide a federal tax credit for hearing aid treatment (HR 2329) are meeting with Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, to build more support for passage in Congress. The meeting will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at River Terrace Inn in Napa.
Attendees will include members of the California chapters of the Hearing Loss Association of America and the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, as well as the International Hearing Society.
The legislation would provide a $500 tax credit toward the purchase of a hearing aid for children and people 55 and older.
White wine seminar at CIA
The Napa Valley Wine Library will sponsor “White Winemaking â€" Techniques and Trends” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.
Speakers include Mike Martini from Louis M. Martini Winery, chef and author Holly Peterson, David Graves of Saintsbury, Genevieve Janssens of Robert Mondavi, Peter McCrea of Stony Hill, Angelina Mondavi of Charles Krug, Chris Phelps of Swanson and Sam Spencer of Spencer Roloson.

Napa River Festival Aug. 31
After a three-year hiatus due to flood control work on the Napa River, Friends of the Napa River will hold its River Festival from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Napa.
The River Festival advocates river-friendly living, and is the organization's chief fundraising effort for the year. The Napa Valley Symphony will perform an evening concert.

Dareing joins Napa Historical Society
Amanda Dareing has joined the staff of the Napa Historical Society as research and volunteer coordinator.
Dareing was previously gallery associate at the Tercera Gallery in Palo Alto, where she worked in customer service, design and event planning. She has bachelor's degrees in art history and design from UC Davis.
“Continuing my work as the NCHS's research and volunteer coordinator, I look forward to exploring the history of this interesting region and helping others to do the same,” said Dareing.
Hispanic Network celebrates 25 years
The Napa County Hispanic Network will celebrate its 25th anniversary at its 2008 Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 at Silverado Resort in Napa.
The banquet is the main fundraiser for the organization's scholarship program, which has provided $280,000 in scholarships to local students graduating from high school of transferring from community college to a four-year school.
