The measures -- including an assault-style weapons ban -- are the initial house democratic response to the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in December.

The package has 15 proposals and resembles President Obama's plans to stop gun violence.

Written by a dozen House democrats, the plans were led by California democratic Represenative Mike Thompson.

For an item to be recommended, two-thirds of the group had to back it meaning there could be some Democrats who do not agree with the plan.

Yesterday, Vice President Joe Biden rallied Democrats in Virginia supporting President Obama's gun violence proposals.

"Folks, you agree with me, I'm sure, enough is enough," he said. "We have to stand up. I don't want to hear about we can't take it on because it's too politically dangerous. The world has changed, the American public has changed."

In Pennsylvania, state legislation is already in the works. Some of those bills include prohibiting possession of assault-style weapons within the state, except for law enforcement or military personnel. Another would amend the Castle Doctrine to outlaw the house of force if the person is able to get away or if police tell the victim not to go after the suspect. Another bill, if passed, would require guns to have child safety locks in certain situations.

The plan proposed by U.S. House Democrats is led by Congressman John Dingell of Michigan. While he's been a strong ally of the National Rifle Association, he has clashed with them before on some issues.
