Thompson Marks Passage of Disaster Supplemental
Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) released the following statement after voting to pass the Supplemental Appropriations Act. The bill contains key funding for which Thompson advocated to help the Fifth Congressional District with fire recovery. After a lengthy negotiation process, this bill now heads to the President’s desk for signature.
“Today the House passed a bill that includes critical funding to help our district recover from recent fires, provisions I fought to include to help us recover and rebuild. The Supplemental Appropriations Act includes $100 million in Community Development Block Grant funding that can be used to help communities like ours with unmet needs. That will allow us to continue with debris removal, funding housing and repair infrastructure that was damaged in the October 2017 fires. The bill also includes funding to help small family agricultural producers whose crops were damaged by disaster like the wildfires and wildfire smoke in our district.
“It was disappointing that despite wide, bipartisan support in both the House and Senate for this bill, three House Republicans chose to hold up these resources and funding critical to disaster survivors like so many in our district. This was a shameful ploy to get attention at the expense of those who survived terrible disasters. I urge the President to sign this bill immediately so there are no further delays and our district can continue to recover and rebuild.”
