“On any given day, there are 3,000 Sonoma County residents living on the street,” said Thompson. “The Providence Rohnert Park House will help address homelessness not only in Rohnert Park, but throughout Sonoma County. I am proud to work with leaders like Providence to secure this funding and help deliver the resources our community needs to address this issue and help those experiencing homelessness.”

“Providence is grateful for Representative Thompson’s ongoing support to secure funding to provide supportive housing to at-risk seniors experiencing homelessness throughout Sonoma County,” said Providence.

The population served by this project will be chronically homeless seniors (age 55+), a subset of the regional homeless population that has exponentially grown in recent years due to displacement caused by fires, high rents and housing prices that have outpaced sources of income typically available to elderly persons, and economic hardship caused by the pandemic.

Six of the units in the building will provide recuperative care services to homeless seniors with mental health, substance use disorders and social conditions that may prevent them from succeeding in permanent supportive housing. Service providers will follow a harm-reduction and trauma-informed model of resident engagement and service delivery.
