Thompson Releases Statement After Voting to Avoid a Government Shutdown
Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement after voting for the 45-day continuing resolution to keep the government open.
“Funding the government is essential, and today, I voted to avoid a government shutdown,” said Thompson. “This bill will fund the government at current levels, pay our troops, ensure our Border Patrol agents are paid, and protect against extreme Republican cuts while providing time to negotiate yearlong appropriations bills. We were pushed to the brink of a shutdown because of extreme MAGA Republicans and Speaker McCarthy’s reluctance to work with Democrats. Today, Speaker McCarthy finally brought forward a bill that, with Democrats' support, passed out of the House.
“It is important to remember this is only a temporary stopgap bill and that we have much more work to do.”
