THOMPSON RELEASES STATEMENT ON LEBANON WAR POWERS RESOLUTION

June 4, 2026

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement after voting “No” on H.Con.Res 84.

“We must put an end to forever wars. I stand with the Lebanese people, the government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces in their efforts to live peacefully and defeat the terrorist organization Hezbollah, and I stand firmly against any attempt to involve the United States in a war in Lebanon or anywhere else.

“That’s why I joined my Democratic colleagues and party leadership in voting ‘no’ on today’s resolution as it contains provisions that would harm—not help—our peacekeeping efforts in Lebanon. I support an alternate War Powers Resolution, H.Con.Res 108, which fixes the issues with today’s resolution and would help stop Americans from becoming engaged in hostilities in Lebanon.”
