Thompson Releases Statement on Ongoing Conflict in Israel and Gaza

Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) released the following statement regarding the ongoing conflict in Israel and Gaza.

“The protection of civilian life is tantamount as the conflict in Israel and Gaza is creating a worsening humanitarian crisis. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people from terrorism like we saw on October 7, but they must do so while prioritizing the safety of civilians. Hamas is using innocent Palestinians as human shields, which is a war crime, and they are directly responsible for many civilian deaths. The recent reports from Al-Shifa Hospital are grave and concerning, and the director-general of the International Red Cross said that the situation is unbearably desperate. Innocent lives are at risk because of Hamas, but there is no justification for attacking health care facilities. The Israeli government must adhere to international law in their pursuit of Hamas terrorists and do everything possible to avoid civilian casualties.”
