Thompson Statement on Two-Year Anniversary of the Mass Shooting in Las Vegas
Washington – Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of the mass shooting in Las Vegas near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino:
“Two years ago, we witnessed the deadliest mass shooting in our nation’s modern history at a concert in Las Vegas – 58 innocent people were gunned down, hundreds more were wounded, and countless lives and communities were forever changed. As we mark this somber anniversary, our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those lost, the survivors of this horrific tragedy and the first responders who braved gunfire to save lives that day.
“We can prevent more tragedies like Las Vegas, but the Senate must act. The House passed H.R. 8, my bipartisan bill to expand background checks, more than 200 days ago. Members of both parties voted for it and more than 90 percent of Americans support it, yet Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refuses to hold a vote. It’s time for the Senate to do the right thing and pass H.R. 8. Our lives depend on it.”
