Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R. 1319, the American Rescue Plan, the sweeping health and economic relief plan offered by President Biden. The bill provides about $1.9 trillion in relief to help address both the health and economic crises caused by COVID-19. A statement from Thompson is below.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R. 5, the Equality Act, landmark legislation to ensure LGBTQ people are not discriminated against in education, housing, employment and other public accommodations. Under many state laws, LGBTQ individuals are still at risk of being fired, evicted or denied service because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This bill, of which Thompson is an original coauthor, creates a national standard to prohibit such discrimination by amending the Civil Rights Act.

Napa, CA – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) led a Virtual Press Conference with local leaders from across California's Fifth Congressional District to highlight the importance of the $350 billion in state and local funding that was included in the American Rescue Plan. Anna Eshoo (CA-18) thanked the President and House leadership for maintaining the income thresholds for those who qualify for the next round of Economic Impact Payments. Last week, they wrote to President Biden along with 50 members of Congress, asking him to keep the previous thresholds, citing financial hardship for people in high cost of living areas like their districts if income levels were lowered.

Washington – Today, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures Mike Thompson (CA-05) and the entire Democratic membership of the Committee announced the introduction of the Growing Renewable Energy and Efficiency Now (GREEN) Act. This bill, first introduced in June 2020, is a comprehensive use of the tax code to combat the threat of climate change. The legislation would boldly expand the use of renewable energy to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
