Associated Press - ‘U.S. committed to support Tunisian people in fight for democracy and freedom,' says Congressman Mike Thompson

U.S. Congressman Mike Thompson renewed the US commitment "to back up the people of Tunisia in their fight for democracy and freedom."

Speaking at the end of the talk he had, on Wednesday morning, with Foreign Minister Mohamed Mouldi Kefi, the US official said he was "very proud of the accomplishment of this people who belongs to a fantastic country."

During the meeting, Mr. Mohamed Mouldi Kéfi was keen to pay tribute to the United States for the continuous support it brings to Post-Revolution Tunisia, expressing thanks to the American Congress for having backed up the initiative of creating the Enterprise Fund for Tunisia.

He reminded, in the context, of the extent of the challenges Tunisia is facing up in this transitory stage in the different political, economic, and social fields as well as in the employment sector.

Several other American officials have come to Tunisia after the Revolution, including American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, American Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns and Senators John McCain and Joseph Lieberman.
