U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, will be in American Canyon on Monday to attend a ceremony during which city officials plan to name a future hiking trail after him. The 2 p.m. public ceremony will be near the corner of Eucalyptus Drive and Wetlands Edge Road.  The future “Congressman Mike Thompson Loop Trail” is a 1.8-mile loop that may open to the public in the fall of 2011.

City officials decided to name the trail in Thompson's honor in recognition of the congressman's “ years of public service and numerous contributions and accomplishments,” according to a city press release.

The loop will connect Napa River and Bay Trail, a project funded in part with state money from the Napa County Regional Parks and Open Space District.
