Thompson Announces Federal Disaster Declaration
February 3, 2006
Congressman Mike Thompson (D-Napa Valley) released the following statement today in response to the President's federal disaster declaration for 29 California Counties, including Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lake, Humboldt Del Norte and Yolo. On January 10, 2006 Thompson authored a letter, signed by 26 members of the California Congressional Delegation, urging the President support the Governor's call for disaster relief. “I'm relived and gratified that the Administration has finally realized the true extent of damage caused by the New Year's floods and storms. This was the last major hurdle we had to clear in order to get badly needed federal assistance to those who suffered the most. “Initial estimates pegged the cost of storm related damage at over $350 million. This federal assistance will help local communities and individuals get back on their feet.” # # #
