Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), an historic package designed to lower costs for families and invest in climate action. The bill passed the House by a vote of 220-207 following a 50-50 vote in the Senate with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote. The bill now heads to President Joe Biden's desk to be signed into law.

Mike Thompson (CA-05) and Jared Huffman (CA-02) announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is awarding Santa Rosa a $2,633,622.44 grant for fire support measures as a result of the 2019 Kincade fire. This funding is authorized under Section 420 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.

This week, Reps. Mike Thompson (CA-05), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), Jim Costa (CA-16), Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), Cindy Axne (IA-03) and 17 members introduced legislation to reauthorize the Emergency Relief Program (formerly known as WHIP+) for natural disasters that occurred in 2022. The ERP offers critical assistance to agricultural producers, including grapegrowers, whose crops were impacted by smoke taint.

Santa Rosa will now be eligible to receive part of $8,699,999,999 from the Department of Transportation for Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This highlights Santa Rosa's effective recovery from recent wildfires using transportation and energy infrastructure upgrades from the Department of Transportation.

This bipartisan legislation makes historic investments to surge production of American-made semiconductors, tackle supply chain vulnerabilities, bolster America's scientific research and technological leadership, and strengthen America's economic and national security. Many of these provisions passed the House in February as part of the America COMPETES Act.
