Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) and 132 Members of the House Democratic Caucus wrote to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell urging him to hold a vote on H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Check Act of 2019 and H.R. 1112, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019. Both passed the House with bipartisan support more than 260 days ago and have been blocked from Senate consideration despite widespread public support.

Washington – Today House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures ChairmanMike Thompson (CA-05) and Committee Democrats released a discussion draft of the Growing Renewable Energy and Efficiency Now (GREEN) Act. This draft legislation is a comprehensive approach to tackling climate change by using the tax code to extend and expand renewable energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) released the following statement after a shooting in Fresno, California at a family event that killed four and injured at least six others.

"Another family tragically altered forever, and another community ripped apart by gun violence, this time in Fresno, California. My heart is broken for those killed and those forever changed by this senseless act and I am grateful for the first responders who rushed toward danger to help those hurt.

Bill Johnson (OH-06) and Rep David Schweikert (AZ-06), announced the introduction of the Creating Opportunities Now for Necessary and Effective Care Technologies (CONNECT) for Health Act. This bipartisan and bicameral package will help expand access to important telehealth services that can lower health costs and make health care more efficient for patients.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) and Sonoma Valley Fire and Rescue Authority (SVFRA) Chief Stephen Akre announced a $3,382,458 Federal grant has been awarded to SVFRA through the Federal Emergency Management Agency's SAFER program. The grant will fund 12 Firefighter/Paramedic positions, allowing the authority to increase staffing levels on 4 engine companies and provide heightened services to the City of Sonoma, Glen Ellen, and Valley of the Moon.
