WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today announced $4.8 million in Emergency Relief (ER) funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to help the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and local agencies cover repair costs for infrastructure damaged by the August 24th, 2014 earthquake.

Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, on Friday announced $4.8 million in federal aid for Caltrans to cover costs to repair infrastructure damaged by the Aug. 24 earthquake centered near Napa.

The funds are from the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration, and come after President Barack Obama approved FEMA disaster aid for local governments in September.

Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena on Friday announced the money will come from the Federal Highway Administration. The South Napa Earthquake on Aug. 24 caused road damage varying from pavement cracks to exposing rebar on concrete bridges.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson today voted against his own legislation, the Conservation Easement Incentive Act of 2015, after House Republicans rejected Thompson's amendment to pay for the bill. Thompson offered an amendment that would not have raised taxes on any individuals, and was previously proposed by former Republican Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp. Thompson's amendment would have simply given the IRS more time to investigate if someone overstated an asset's value which could lead to a larger deduction than they are entitled.

According to the OIG, these scammers are demanding money to pay off tax debts, threatening individuals with legal action for taxes due on prior year tax filings, and trying to defraud individuals by saying they are owed a tax refund to lure them into revealing their banking or other private financial information.

Presented with the opportunity to pitch an idea to their local congressman, students at American Canyon High School picked a hot topic: Should students be required to pass a civics test to graduate.

The plan was crafted as part of a government assignment in Tom Stolberg's class. He had two groups of students prepare briefing papers that were presented to Congressman Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, who visited the class last week.

The other proposal presented to Thompson focused on ways to help improve employment opportunities and money management skills for young people.
