A congressman took the renewed gun debate from Capitol Hill to his constituents in California, holding a town hall Tuesday night on gun control nearly a month after a gunman massacred 27 people in Newtown, Connecticut before shooting himself.

VALLEJO (CBS SF) â€" Rep. Mike Thompson is holding public forums in the North Bay on gun violence reduction and prevention Wednesday night and Thursday.
Thompson, D-St. Helena, whose district includes all or parts of Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa and Lake counties, will hear public comment on the controversial gun control issue in Vallejo City Council chambers at 555 Santa Clara St. between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight.

Vice-President Joe Biden said he and the President are “determined to take action” in the wake of the Newtown shootings. Wednesday he's meeting with gun control advocates and victims' families. Thursday he'll meet with sportsmen's group and a representative from the NRA.

A new financial boost will help The Pathway Home better assist war veterans after they leave its doors, according to officials of the Yountville therapy center.
Pathway on Tuesday announced a two-year, $200,000 grant it received from the Newman's Own Foundation, the charity founded by and named for the late actor Paul Newman.

Discussions of federal legislation on gun control have proven to be a spark for contentious debate in America, and Tuesday night's forum at the Napa City Hall was no exception.
Residents packed into the City Council chambers to voice opinions on both sides of the debate to a panel featuring U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-St. Helena, and officials representing local law enforcement agencies, school systems, and mental health service providers.

NAPA, Calif. (KGO) -- Passions ran high Tuesday night during the first of several gun violence forums in the Bay Area. These meetings were triggered by the elementary school shootings in Connecticut and hundreds of people with differing opinions on gun rights filled Napa City Hall.
After more than two hours, the event wrapped up Tuesday night. The event was built as a chance to let a local congressman to hear from citizens about ways to stop gun violence, but also to deal with issues with mental health programs and violence in the entertainment industry.

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), leader of the House Democratic task force formed in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shootings, will open up the discussion of what to do about gun violence to the public this week. And gun rights advocates are planning to be on hand to make sure any talk of gun control is held in check.
