House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jerry McNerney were the only greater Bay Area House members who voted Wednesday in favor of President Obama's plan to beat back the Islamic State in part by training and equipping moderate Syrian rebels.
The House voted 273-156 to add an amendment authorizing Obama's plans to a short-term spending bill passed shortly after that will keep the federal government operating through mid-December. Voting yes were 159 Republicans and 114 Democrats, while 85 Democrats and 71 Republicans voted no.

Mike Thompson's (CA-5) bipartisan legislation to designate the United States Postal facility located at 100 Admiral Callaghan Lane in Vallejo as the "Philmore Graham Post Office Building" pasted the House last night by unanimously. The legislation, H.R. 5106, was cosponsored by every member of the California Congressional Delegation.
Earthquake recovery is under way in Vallejo, with several levels of assistance already or becoming available to those impacted by the Aug. 24, magnitude 6.0 South Napa Earthquake.
As residents and officials await hoped-for federal aid, local authorities are already working to help those impacted regain a sense of normalcy.
Members of the Solano Volunteer Organizations Active in a Disaster are providing information to affected residents, while at the same time completing a needs assessment, officials said.
NAPA, C.A. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today called on President Obama to issue a major disaster declaration for the areas impacted by the August 24th earthquake. A major disaster declaration, which was formally requested by the State of California, would provide federal assistance to the communities that were damaged by the earthquake.

Mike Thompson (CA-5) today announced that the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) will consider waiving late filing, payment, or deposit penalties on a case-by-case basis for wineries and other businesses whose operations were affected by the recent earthquake.
WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today warned constituents to be aware of scams and fraud in the wake of the recent earthquake.
"Please be aware of scams and fraudulent phone calls, and watch out for suspicious activity and potential fraud," said Thompson. "Make sure you ask to see a license, and if you suspect a scam call the authorities."
Rep. Mike Thompson announced $2 million in Emergency Relief funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration to help Caltrans and local agencies cover repair costs for infrastructure damaged by Sunday's quake.
"This earthquake severely damaged a lot of our infrastructure and these funds will go a long way toward helping our community recover," said Thompson. "I will continue working with the DOT and all federal agencies to make sure our district gets the emergency resources we need to rebuild and recover."
