Immigration Reform
Immigrants are an integral part of our nation's history, culture, and economy. They strengthen America and contribute greatly to our success. However, the current immigration system is broken and needs to be fixed.
Immigrants are our neighbors and colleagues, soldiers and first responders, doctors, lawyers, farmers and entrepreneurs. They deserve the opportunity to earn their American Dream. That's why I'm proud to be an original cosponsor of several immigration reform bills.
As a nation of immigrants, we have a responsibility to foster dignity and respect for all newcomers to America. I will continue working with members of both parties, in the House and in the Senate, to enact comprehensive immigration reform that secures our borders and provides an earned pathway to lawful status for immigrants who work hard and play by the rules.

Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) and nearly two hundred Democrats introduced a bill to prevent the President from banning refugees and Muslims from entering the country. Thompson is an original cosponsor of the Statue of Liberty Values Act 2.0 (SOLVE Act 2.0), which defunds the President's Executive Order and states that it will have no effect.
Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) released the following statement about the President's executive order banning Muslims and refugees from entering the United States:
U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Napa) wants the nation's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to stop wearing the word "police" on their jackets and vests when they are undertaking enforment operations.
He has been joined by 41 other lawmakers in calling for the change. Thompson represents parts of Martinez in the House.
"This is a matter of public safety," Thompson said. "Suggesting ICE officers are members of local law enforcement undermines the relationships immigrant communities have established with police departments."

Washington - Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) led a group of 41 lawmakers in urging the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to cease displaying the word "Police" on jackets and vests during enforcement operations.
Washington – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) cosponsored two bills to protect the rights of immigrants. The DREAMers, Immigrants, and Refugees (DIRe) Legal Aid Act would provide help the most vulnerable among us get legal assistance should they face detention or deportation. As we saw this weekend, hasty executive orders can leave even documented immigrants at risk.
Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) cosponsored a bill to overturn and defund the President's executive orders banning refugees and those from Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States.
"These bans are not just anti-Muslim, they are anti-American," said Thompson. "Barring refugees or members of any religion runs counter to our country's principles, values, and history. I stand in strong opposition, and will do everything in my power to see they are reversed.
