WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5) today announced the beginning of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition and urged high school students in California's 5th Congressional District to enter their artwork. The annual competition showcases the artistic talents and abilities of students in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories. The 2015 competition is open to all high school students in California's 5th District. The deadline to submit artwork is 5:00 p.m., Monday March 30th, 2015.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A bipartisan coalition today introduced the Conservation Easement Incentive Act of 2015 in the House (H.R. 641) and Senate (S. 330). The legislation, authored by Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Mike Kelly (R-PA), and Senators Dean Heller (R-NV) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) provides a permanent enhanced tax incentive to family farmers, ranchers, and other landowners who choose not to develop their land and instead preserve their property for conservation.

Washington, D.C – In an effort to combat chronic hunger across the nation, a bipartisan coalition in the House of Representatives has introduced H.R. 461, the Wild Game Donation Act of 2015, to provide hunters with charitable deductions for the costs associated with donating processed deer, moose, and other wild game meats to food-based charities.

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-5), has been reappointed to serve on the House Committee on Ways and Means in the 114th Congress. The Committee on Ways and Means is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The committee has jurisdiction over revenue, tariffs, trade agreements, and the nation's bonded debt. The committee also oversees the revenue-related aspects of the Social Security system, Medicare, and social services programs.
