Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-1), a senior member of the House Committee and Ways and Means, today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is awarding over $2.5 million in federal funding to help complete the Solano Avenue segment of the Napa Vine Trail. When completed, the Napa Vine Trail will be one of the premier transportation systems in the country, connecting the entire Napa Valley from the Vallejo Ferry Terminal to Calistoga.
Yurok Tribal Chairman Thomas O'Rourke Sr. stood at the edge of Blue Creek, a cold water fish refuge connected to the Klamath River, and shared the tribe's most spiritual place with the public figures and advocates who may help save it.

The debt-reduction fight in Washington may shrink federal funding for community clinics at a time when the government is asking them to gear up for an influx of patients, local health officials said Monday.
The Obama administration is counting on community health centers, which currently care for one in six of the nation's uninsured, to play a key role as federal health care reform extends coverage to some 32 million Americans by 2014.
Area Congressman Mike Thompson is furious and he has a perfect right to be. He's been calling for action over the past week by both Congress and the Senate to a short-term extension of FAA funding which expired on July 22.
But the Senate recessed without taking any action. As a result, the government has lost more than $250 million in revenue due to expired ticket taxes and put tens of thousands of jobs at risk during a critical period of our economic recovery.
“I am pleased that the Town of Yountville has received federal funding to help improve water conservation and encourage increasingly responsible water use in our community,” said Rep.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and Redwood Capital will be providing the capital they need to grow and thrive,” said Rep. Thompson.
“I am pleased that House and Senate leadership, working with the White House, have come to a solution that addresses Congress' inaction on the FAA reauthorization,” said Rep. Thompson.
