Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) and Rep. Anna Eshoo (CA-18) announced that Thompson's bipartisan PHONE Act has been referred by the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology to the full committee for consideration, the final step before a vote on the House floor. H.R. 1289, the PHONE Act, would allow residents who lost their homes to natural disasters, such as wildfires, to keep their phone numbers at no cost to them while they rebuild.
Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass the bipartisan Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act. The package included Thompson's legislation to waive existing telehealth restrictions during the Coronavirus public health emergency. This bipartisan provision would suspend some Medicare telehealth restrictions to allow seniors to get medical care via telehealth. Many Medicare beneficiaries would also be able to get health care in their own homes via telehealth.

Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) marked one year since the House passed H.R. 8, his Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019. This legislation would expand background checks and is widely agreed to be the quickest and most effective legislation to help prevent gun violence. Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) put out the following statement on the deadly shooting in Milwaukee that killed at least six and injured others.
"Heartbreaking news out of Milwaukee. Jan and I are mourning for the families and loved ones of those killed and injured, and for the community forever changed. As we prepare to mark one year since the passage of H.R. 8, this is a tragic reminder of the real impact this violence has and that we must fight to get this bill signed into law."

Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced that H.R. 5953, the bipartisan Preventing Disaster Revictimization Act has been approved by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and is ready to be considered for a vote by the full House of Representatives. This bill would prevent the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from attempting to recoup funds from disaster recovery on the backs of disaster survivors. A statement from Thompson is below.
Washington, D.C. – Bipartisan legislation introduced in the House today will ensure the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) does not attempt to take back disaster assistance funds it has mistakenly awarded to victims who applied for the help in good faith and spent the money to begin rebuilding their lives.
