Washington – Today, Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) introduced legislation providing homeowners in disaster-prone regions with broad incentives to harden their properties against wildfires and other risks. The legislation is intended to help address the ongoing insurance crisis in California and other states, as the rising frequency and intensity of natural disasters has led insurers to raise rates and, in several cases, exit certain markets entirely.

Mike Thompson (CA-04) announced he joined 153 colleagues in sending a letter to the Trump Administration after President Trump issued an executive order on his first day in office that could pause all disbursements of Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funding immediately. The Administration has not yet clarified which projects, programs, and activities are frozen. The letter urges the Trump Administration to disclose a full list of these frozen initiatives.
