Advocates on both sides of the gun control debate are prepared to make a lot of noise about the future of gun regulations in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. shooting. That's the message from the first of House Democratic gun violence pointman Mike Thompson's violence-focused town halls this week.

VALLEJO (CBS SF) â€" Rep. Mike Thompson is holding public forums in the North Bay on gun violence reduction and prevention Wednesday night and Thursday.
Thompson, D-St. Helena, whose district includes all or parts of Sonoma, Napa, Solano, Contra Costa and Lake counties, will hear public comment on the controversial gun control issue in Vallejo City Council chambers at 555 Santa Clara St. between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight.

A congressman took the renewed gun debate from Capitol Hill to his constituents in California, holding a town hall Tuesday night on gun control nearly a month after a gunman massacred 27 people in Newtown, Connecticut before shooting himself.

NAPA, Calif. (KGO) -- Passions ran high Tuesday night during the first of several gun violence forums in the Bay Area. These meetings were triggered by the elementary school shootings in Connecticut and hundreds of people with differing opinions on gun rights filled Napa City Hall.
After more than two hours, the event wrapped up Tuesday night. The event was built as a chance to let a local congressman to hear from citizens about ways to stop gun violence, but also to deal with issues with mental health programs and violence in the entertainment industry.

Discussions of federal legislation on gun control have proven to be a spark for contentious debate in America, and Tuesday night's forum at the Napa City Hall was no exception.

A new financial boost will help The Pathway Home better assist war veterans after they leave its doors, according to officials of the Yountville therapy center.
Pathway on Tuesday announced a two-year, $200,000 grant it received from the Newman's Own Foundation, the charity founded by and named for the late actor Paul Newman.

In the three and a half weeks since Newtown, Conn. put gun violence back on the front-burner, gun-control advocates have seized the initiative in Washington. They've introduced no less than 8 different gun-control bills since last week alone. President Obama last month tapped Vice President Joe Biden to lead a commission on gun violence, and days later House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi picked Rep. Mike Thompson to lead a separate task force on the issue. Thompson last week announced the appointment of 12 vice-chairs.
