Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 and H.R. 1603, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021. These bills help provide a path to citizenship for our nation's Dreamers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders and establishes a program for agricultural workers to earn legal Certified Agricultural Workers status. Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), Rep. G. K. Butterfield (NC-01), Rep. Brett Guthrie (KY-02), and Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson (PA-15) announced the introduction of the Medicare Orthotics and Prosthetics Patient-Centered Care Act. This bipartisan bill helps ensure that Medicare beneficiaries can access the orthotics and prosthetics devices they need. Under current Medicare requirements, these beneficiaries are a risk of getting these devices without the necessary services and customization required for them to be of the best use to these patients.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05), House Transportation and Infrastructure Chair Peter DeFazio (OR-04), Rep. Lucille Royball-Allard (CA-40), Rep. Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), and Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-20) introduced the Increase Federal Disaster Cost Share Act. This bipartisan bill would boost the Federal cost share from 75 to 90 percent for any federally declared disasters in 2020. Thompson was joined by original coauthors representing many districts hit hard by bad fires during the Coronavirus crisis.

Napa, CA – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) announced the start of his 2021 Fifth Congressional District Art Competition and encouraged local high school students to submit their artwork. Each year, this competition allows the chance for students to have their art displayed in the United States Capitol for an entire year.

The legislation honors the history of women in our nation and recommits to the work of spotlighting the often untold stories of women. This bill also recognizes the roots of Women's History Month right in Thompson's own district.

Washington – Today Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05) celebrated the passage of H.R. 8, his Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021. The bill would expand background checks to be required on all firearm sales, closing the gun show and online sales loopholes. Thompson is a gun owner, hunter and supporter of the Second Amendment. He's led the Task Force since it was established in 2012 after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. A statement from Thompson is below.

Washington – Today Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-05) voted to pass H.R.1319, the final version of the American Rescue Plan, comprehensive COVID-19 relief legislation. This bill, first passed in the House last month, was amended by the Senate, came back to the House for a vote and now heads to President Biden's desk for signature. This resolution recognizes the importance of hearing to overall health and promotes awareness about preventing deafness and promoting hearing and ear care.

Washington – Today House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Chairman Mike Thompson (CA-05), along with original cosponsors House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), and Representatives Fred Upton (R-MI), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Christopher Smith (R-NJ), Robin Kelly (D-IL), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), and Lucy McBath (D-GA), announced the introduction of the H.R. 8, Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021. This landmark gun violence prevention legislation requires background checks on all firearm sales.
