Dear Friend,
Competition in our global economy is increasing and a college education is getting more expensive. This is counterintuitive. If our nation is going to remain competitive in our global economy, then we must continue producing the world's best entrepreneurs and innovators. And if we are going to continue producing the world's best entrepreneurs and innovators, then a college education must be an affordable option for working families.

Dear Friend,
Today, on Memorial Day, we honor the men and women who laid down their lives for our nation's most treasured and highest ideals: freedom, liberty and democracy.
As we honor their service to our nation, let us also remember the Americans who are serving our nation around the world today. Without the brave efforts of generations of soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Merchant Marines, and Coast Guardsmen and their families, our country would not live so freely.

Two years ago today, the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. During these two short years, the law has improved health care access for millions, and saved people across our district and nation billions of dollars on prescription drugs and health insurance premiums. Yet despite the early success, and the even greater promise offered by health care reform, some in Washington target it for cheap political games.

Dear Friend,
While accepting the Democratic Party's nomination for President in 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt pledged to our nation and himself a New Deal for the American People. At the time, America was facing some of the Great Depression's darkest days. Infrastructure investments were the centerpiece of the New Deal because these investments were one of the strongest jump starts for a struggling economy. Americans from all corners of our country were put to work modernizing our roads and bridges.

Dear Friend,
My office has recently received reports that a September 29, 2010 e-newsletter sent from me titled “Wine E-News from Congressman Mike Thompson” is being used in conjunction with an electronic and financial scam. The email comes from an individual claiming to be a U.S. Ambassador to Ghana and asks for people to send money to a fraudulent email address. Please be advised not to send money or give out any personal information. My office is working with authorities to address the situation.
Sincerely,
Mike Thompson
Member of Congress

Dear Friend,
The Internet is an amazing tool for communication, innovation and economic development. We use it every day at work and home. We pay our bills, send out mail, and talk to our friends, families and loved ones online. With the explosion of the Internet during the 1990s, many Internet startups have become successful businesses that employ thousands of people and generate billions in revenues.

Today we honor the tremendous sacrifices our veterans made for our great country. I hope you will join me by taking some time to think about the veterans in our community and thank them for their service.

On August 14, 1935, after much debate and protest, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Social Security legislation into law. More than 75 years later, Social Security has become one of the most successful government programs in history. Each year, Social Security reliably pays billions in benefits to millions of beneficiaries and delivers on its promise of protecting our seniors who worked hard all their lives. Yet despite its success, some in Washington target Social Security for cheap political games.

Dear Friend,
I believe government must take a common-sense approach to spending, just like you and your family. Now more than ever, we need a realistic budget that pares down the deficit while still providing funds for veterans' benefits, education, agriculture, infrastructure, health care, and other crucial social services. Doing nothing is not just fiscally irresponsible - it's putting our families at risk.
