Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy Mike Thompson (CA-04), Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee Richard E. Neal (MA-01), and the Democratic membership of the Ways & Means Committee announced the introduction of H.R. 5862, the Energy Independence and Affordability Act (EIAA). The EIAA would restore Rep. Thompson’s historic renewable energy tax incentives passed in the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.

Napa, CA – Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04) met with Napa resident Ghassan Rustom and his family members. Mr. Rustom’s family members, including his wife and kids, were visiting family in Syria when violence suddenly broke out. As U.S. Citizens and North Bay residents, the Rustom family required help arranging safe transport home. After the family was denied assistance by the U.S. embassy due to the dangerous conditions in Syria, Thompson and his staff stepped in to coordinate with the Red Cross and help bring the Rustom family home safely:

Washington, D.C. – Friday, Rep. Mike Thompson (CA-04), Rep. Troy Balderson (OH-12), and Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-07) led a bipartisan coalition of 70 Members of Congress to urge House and Senate leadership to extend telehealth coverage benefits so that all Medicare beneficiaries retain access to these services. Without an extension by today, September 30th, seniors on Medicare will lose access to critical telehealth services.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Reps. Greg Steube (R-FL), Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), and Doug LaMalfa (R-CA) announced the introduction of the Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2025. This bill extends Thompson and Steube’s landmark 2024 law providing tax relief for individuals impacted by federally declared disasters. The bill will permit victims to claim disaster-related personal casualty losses without having to itemize deductions through 2026.

Washington, D.C. – In the wake of the deadly school shooting at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gun Violence Prevention Chairman Mike Thompson led 130 Democrats in a letter calling on Speaker Johnson to listen to the prayers of millions of Americans and take action to end gun violence. 

“Scripture shows examples of leaders like Moses and David standing up to evil to protect their people. Their prayers were not passive but supported them to action.
